AUTUMN / WINTER TERM 2018 - WORKSHOPS AT
THE WHITE HORSE BOOKSHOP, MARLBOROUGH

AUTUMN / WINTER TERM 2018

13th September – Watercolour - Putting Figures into your Paintings

Starting with sketching the figure from life, Paul will then guide you through
his watercolour techniques for simplifying detail, suggesting form and
movement. Putting it all into practice, we will plan and add figures to a
simple landscape or street scene. Some drawing and watercolour
experience will be useful.

3rd October – Sunlit Street Scenes in Watercolour

Bring your street scenes to life with the dramatic, atmospheric effects
of bright sunlight and shadows. Focussing on the importance of tonal
contrast, Paul will cover techniques for capturing low sun and cross
lighting and the dramatic light effects experienced when looking
into the sun.

30th October - Colourful Autumn Landscapes in Watercolour

On this course, Paul will cover the classic watercolour techniques for
capturing the atmospheric qualities and colours of Autumn, a season
of vibrant yellows, reds and browns, hazy morning mists and long
shadows on the landscape.

22nd November – Mountains & Mists in Watercolour

The dramatic atmosphere and imposing contours of remote, mountainous
landscape provides a rich source of inspiration for the artist. Paul will guide
you through his techniques for suggesting the imposing scale, rock strata,
texture, cloud and mist experienced in regions such as Scotland and Cumbria.

5th December – Winter Reflections in Watercolour

While the weather may be cold and wet during the winter months,
inspiration for the artist remains abundant! This course will focus on
creating the atmospheric effects of rain, wet roads and pavements in
the city, as well as the soft mists and reflections along snow bound
rivers in the landscape.
